Effects of aging on lungs

Effects of aging on lungs are very common among people in the world. The lung of the human being consists of two primary major functionality are to get the oxygen from air and to release the carbon dioxide from the body.

Effects of aging on lungs

When a person breathes the air enters the lungs and when you exhale the air goes out of the lungs. The air enters and exits through the small airways and fills the sacs called as alveoli. The lungs get infected due to the inhalation of the unknown particles sometimes. The major diseases that causes the lungs get infected are due to smoking, dust, air pollution, and due to the small particles that affect the lungs. A normal aged person tries to make alveoli slowly when they are 20. So once they cross this age they automatically lose some tissues in the lungs. When the Alveoli decrease the capillaries in the lungs also decreases. The lungs elastic capacity reduces due to different factors and due the tissue loss the elasticity becomes less. There will be changes in the bones and muscles that results in the change of the chest diameter. Due to the Aging problems the flow of the air decreases, the exchange of the gas decreases, the inhalation and the exhalation of the air reduces and the respiratory muscles becomes weaker. Another main problem that reduces the pulmonary functions is the obesity. The older people who are above 60 will often face pneumonia once they are affected from bacterial or viral problems. In order to avoid all such infections proper pneumonia vaccinations should be given.
