Becoming old cannot be stopped though you can take precautionary steps to prevent the adverse effects while you are old. The body is susceptible to all the changes that take place.

Effects of aging on digestion

The body may not be able to tackle all the ill effects occurring on it. Digestive tract of the body is one of the very resilient systems of the body. Though it is resilient there are some adverse of aging on the digestive system also which may cause some distress and difficulty to old people. The first and foremost effect is decrease in the slowing down of the digestion process leading to indigestion problems. An old person’s digestive system may take more time than a young person digestive system though they take the same food. By the time the first meal is digested it might be time for the second meal so this lead to adverse effect likes indigestion and food poisoning. The secretion of enzymes and saliva in the mouth starts decreasing. The saliva and enzymes are the most important and active participants on the digestion process. This would also lead to indigestion problems. Also the absorption of nutrients starts decreasing. One good option to avoid difficulties in digestion is to eat lot fiber rich food items and also take in lot of fluids. Avoid taking lot of food at a time instead take small quantity of food in frequent intervals. After certain age it is good to reduce even the amount of calorie intake which can show better results on the digestive process.
