Back Pain Relief

Something doctors hear of almost every day in their surgeries is the common complaint of back pain. Often the pain can be experienced as a sharp stabbing pain, like needles or knives. Or the pain may be more dull yet constantly nagging whetever position you get into to try and relieve it. It may be hard to sit or stand for more than a few moments at a time and even finding a comfortable sleeping position at night can become quite a challenge.

Sometimes you know exactly what the reason is for the appearance of your back pain. It may come about as a result of over-straining when lifting something heavy. It may be due to an injury sustained whilst playing certain sports, such as football or tennis. Maybe it is the result of a car accident or a work related injury. There will also be occasions when you may have no idea where the pain came from. It may be the result of long term stress or of long periods of inactivity, where the supporting muscles have become weakened over time. When the back muscles are under- or over-used or if they are wrongly used, you may feel pain for a few days. This is like a warning that something is wrong and needs to be addressed. With natural treatments like massage and rest  you might notice a natural improvement within a relatively short space of time, especially if you take notice of the warning and start to change what you have been doing.

If no improvement is noticed after a few days, using everyday remedies such as creams, massage or rest you may need to consult a doctor. You may have a more serious problem that can result in chronic pain if left unattended and may even require surgery. Coping with severe chronic pain which goes on for years requires much research on all of the available conventional and alternative remedies that might be able to help. There are lots of choices.

Back pain, unless it is a result of injury, usually begins as a warning sign that you need to change your ways. Bad posture and awkward movements can create problems. It is best not to bend over and pick up your child or a heavy object without first bending your knees, and then lifting. It is best not to start heavy exercise too quickly without doing some  warming up exercises first. And remember that prevention is better than cure. Don’t write off laughter as a possible pain relieving cure, since it has many benefits for health and well-being. Coping with emotions and resolving inner conflict can go a long way to relieving backache which may have come about as a result of some unrsolved trauma from the past.
